Whether you are a total natural in front of the camera, or can think of nothing worse, everyone can take beautiful pictures if they are allowed to just be themselves.

Pre-wedding shoot, engagement shoot, wedding portraits, family portraits - whatever the occasion, my method is always the same. Create an environment where you can just be yourself. No posing, just being.

Here are my tips:

  1. Choose a location that means something too you, or you are familiar with. This will take some of the anxiety out of the shoot, and could even inject some joy.
  2. Wear clothing that you are comfortable in. That doesn't mean you have to wear your big Bridget pants, just clothing you feel confident and secure in. Photographs are always better when your clothes support your swag!
  3. Arrive fed and watered - toilet stop is also always good - get some good sleep the night before, and allow yourself plenty of time to arrive. Take as much stress out of the equation as possible so you can relax.
  4. Choose a date where you don't have any commitments after the shoot. The shoot itself may well leave you feeling very close and enjoying each others company...its nice to take advantage of that and spend some time together afterwards, lunching or walking or whatever!
  5. Finally, and most importantly, remember that I am in your corner. I want you to feel comfortable, look your best in your photos, and I want your photos to capture your unique connection. So there will be walking, chatting, laughing, maybe chasing, definitely hand-holding, eventually cuddling, possibly a kiss or two, maybe even dancing (especially if its raining!). All the things you usually do, without even noticing I am there.

Those are the pictures you will treasure forever.
