A BEAUTIFUL WINTER WEDDING AT STRATTON COURT BARN - BLACK TIE, MUSIC & PURE JOY
There's something deeply romantic about a winter wedding in the English countryside. The soft light, the moody skies, and the feeling of togetherness make every moment feel even more intimate. Ellie and Rikki's Stratton Court Barn wedding was the perfect example - elegant, joyful and filled with love, laughter and a few dramatic gusts of wind that only added to the story.
A PERSONAL CONNECTION
When Ellie and Rikki asked me to photograph their Oxfordshire wedding, it meant a great deal to me personally. Ellie had once been my daughter's pre-school nursery teacher, and I'd previously had the joy of photographing their first-born, Oliver, when he was just a few weeks old. To be invited to capture such an important new chapter in their lives felt incredibly special - and as a wedding photographer, there's nothing more meaningful than documenting a family's journey over time.
STRATTON COURT BARN
Nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside, Stratton Court Barn is one of my favourite UK barn wedding venues. Its rustic charm, warm stone walls, and relaxed atmosphere make it a perfect setting for couples who want a couuntryside wedding that feels both elegant and personal. Even on a cold and blustery winter's day, the team at Stratton Court Barn made sure everything ran smoothly. The barn was glowing with twinkling lights, laughter filled the air, and guests embraced the weather with big smiles and umbrellas in hand.
BLACK TIE GLAMOUR & BEAUTIFUL DETAILS
Ellie and Rikki chose a timeless black-tie theme, which looked stunning against the rustic backdrop of the barn. Guests arrived dressed to the nines, adding a touch of glamour to the cosy winter setting. A highlight of the day was performances by a renowned pianist, filling the venue with beautiful music that set the tone for an emotional and unforgettable celebration.
CANDID WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
As any UK wedding photographer knows, weather can be unpredictable - and on this day, the gale-force winds and rain gave us quite a challenge! The weather kept us inside, meaning it was necessary to get creative with the portraits and group shots - but honestly, it made the photos even better. That's what I love most about documentary-style wedding photography - it's not about perfection, but about emotion. The little glances, the hugs, the happy chaos - those are the images that matter.
A day full of heart & happiness
Despite the storm outside, the warmth and love inside Stratton Court Barn was unmatched. From the emotional ceremony to the laughter-filled speeches and the wild dance floor that followed, it was a day I'll never forget. Capturing Ellie and Rikki's love story - from newborn photos to wedding vows - reminded me why I do what I do. Every couple, every family, every celebration tells a story worth preserving.
