BLUE HARE WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

FOUNDED BY: SARAH ESCOTT

Beginning in 2016 with commissions from friends, and then their friends, for at home, intimate family shoots, parties etc...I shot my first wedding in 2017...and I guess the rest is history - but if you want to know more, have a read below.

Sarah Escott - professional photographer in black t-shirt sits at wooden table with camera equipment and grey felt hats.

This shoot was an attempt at being the other side of the camera so you can see what I look like basically. I also wrote a little piece about wearing different hats...metaphorically speaking. I might share that with you too some time.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE & WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

SE: I live in Warwick, UK but was born in Germany back in the 80's!

SUN, MOON, RISING?

SE: Capricorn sun, Scorpio moon & Sagittarius rising

HOW DID YOU COME TO PHOTOGRAPHY AS YOUR MEDIUM?

SE: You may think it bad when I tell you that photography was not my first love. Paintings and the written word were my first. But as I look back, the disposable film camera of the 80's and 90's was, alongside the humble pen, perhaps my first tool for documenting my world as I saw it. And as I grew up, the camera then took its place as one of the most important tools I had for expressing my view of the world _____ and now, the lives of the amazing people in it.

People gather at the entrance of Freud's Bar with turquoise door signage, including bride in a white wedding dress ascending steps.

I second-shot this wedding for the wonderful Essex photographer Chloe Lee, in Oxford. The ceremony took place at Freud's Bar the day before it closed forever. Incredible venue and wonderful people. Smiles and joy. That's what weddings are about, whether it is just two people or a whole congregation.

WHO ARE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY HEROES?

SE: From history ___ Eve Arnold, Peter Lindbergh, Vivian Maier & Slim Aarons. And those still alive? I have huge admiration for Sandra von Riekhoff, Mackenzie Bigliazzi, John Dolan, Matt Porteous & Benjamin Wheeler

PLANNED TRAVELS FOR 2025?

SE: Milan for sure. Maybe Cyprus...hopefully Cyprus. The Mediterranean has a pull like no other! Would also love to attempt a city break, my wife is missing Paris and its about time our daughter tried a proper croissant

A young child in a pink tulle dress looks up with wonder, captured in soft muted tones against a neutral background.

FAVOURITE BEVERAGE?

SE: Am I allowed to say tea?! No...ok, socially a funky packaged IPA (I am a sucker for branding!) and at home...a light cream sherry. I said that out loud. Hell.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM OF CLOTHING?

SE: Probably my blue chore jacket which I got from a French vintage store...it smelled suitably old when I got it, and it has the perfect sized pockets in all the right places

CAN YOU GIVE US A BRIEF HISTORY OF BLUE HARE PHOTOGRAPHY?

SE: Over the last 8 years I have had the privilege to learn from and work with some amazing photographers. From my first mentoring sessions with Matt Porteous, and the amazing community that he brought together, to second shooting for some of the wedding photographers I have most admired since the start of this mad journey.

I have shot for friends, I have shot for strangers. I have shot for strangers who became friends and invited me back to capture their newborns and every family birthday and child's milestones after that!

I have admired and learned from the work of others, not just wedding photographers, but also fashion, portrait, boudoir and event photographers, and as every artist does, I took the things that I loved most and tried them out, building them into my work to see what felt right, discarding what didn't.

I saw my work evolve further as I started to figure out what I loved most about being present in, and preserving these most private moments of people's lives and the more this voice developed, the more I was able to be faithful to it.

I photographed stranger's families like they were my family. I fell for their love stories, like they had fallen for each other.  And I focussed on what was real, however messy, raw and emotional that was.

I now cap the weddings I book to 25 a year so I can focus on the experience I give my couples, and ensure I am available to cover their other life events that inevitably occur in the years that follow.

And so here I am, in 2025, inviting you in as strangers - so you can, in the end, treasure photographs taken by a friend.

TESTIMONIALS
Newlywed couple ascending elegant stone steps between tall manicured hedges at sunset in formal garden setting at Warwick House, Southam.

Sarah is incredible! Very professional in everything she does and she produces the best photos - she captured our wedding day to perfection. Both of us are not exactly comfortable in front of the camera, but Sarah made us instantly at ease.

Newlywed couple carrying paddle-boards walk down a residential street with parked cars and apartment buildings in black and white.

We knew we wanted someone who would come on the adventure with us and be excited by our ideas even if they seemed a bit bonkers and even bring their own. We knew Sarah was up for the challenge as soon as we spoke to her and she did not disappoint.
